I know when I left the US I didn't have very many definitive answers about where I was going to live. By now I've figured it out. (Don't worry, I've actually been living here since the beginning of October). Anyway, this is my apartment. I share it with one other girl, although there's an empty room so I think another girl is going to move in when she gets back from the job she's on.
It's a three bedroom, two bath apartment. I have to pay for toilet paper, lightbulbs, and food. I can have someone come install the lightbulbs, but I have to buy them. There's also a maid that comes 3 times a week. She does my laundry as long as I buy laundry soap. It's a pretty sweet deal.
My bedroom. Pretty basic. I haven't gotten around to buying very much, although new sheets and comforter are high on the list.
The other part of my room. Note the snowflake Christmas lights. I'm really missing snow by now!
The kitchen! Very basic, but honestly I'm not home enough to cook. I get lunch at the base for free when I'm here and a lot of times we go out for dinner after work.
This is also a hindrance to cooking. There's not a lot of cupboard space and this seems to be everyone's solution. It's weird.
Living room. There's a couple of TV channels that have American shows. Some of them are dubbed (right now I'm watching Air Force One in Spanish) and some just have subtitles. Particularly popular here are Two and Half Men and Big Bang Theory.
And my dinning room. Also not used very much. In fact most of what I use it for is sitting next to the window. We have WiFi here, but it's not a very strong signal. Your best bet is sitting near the window. Probably because the apartment building is solid concrete.
The view outside my window. There's a pool. It's not much use now in the rainy season, but when it gets really hot, I'll be there a lot. You can see one of the other buildings. There's three buildings, with 4 apartments each in our little compound. Everyone who lives here works in my department, most of them doing the same job as me.
There you have it, my new digs! It's a fun place to live, it's kind of like living in the dorms in college again. Except there's more alcohol, no RA's and you're never sure exactly who's living where at any given time.
Yeah!!! I love that now I will actually be able to picture your home when I'm talking to you!
